Historic Thoroughfare Gap Exhibit and Discussion

Friday, February 7, 2025 (2:00 PM - 3:00 PM) (EST)

Description

Presented by Historic Preservation of Prince William County

The program will give a brief overview of the traveling exhibit "Historic Thoroughfare," and the online exhibit meant to further explore the history of the land and the community.

The rural community of Thoroughfare was established after the Civil War primarily by free-born and formerly enslaved African Americans. The roots and divisions of plantation land ownership in antebellum Virginia extend well into present day boundaries and memory, but Thoroughfare's legacy is not solely defined by this. Explore the history of Thoroughfare through the people, places, and stories that contribute to its identity today.
