This is a free, public event to encourage literacy and exposure to the arts, while providing an opportunity for emerging artists, authors, and musicians to showcase their talents to the community. This year’s program will feature five participants — four from Prince William County and Manassas City, and one from the greater Washington, D.C., metropolitan region.
§ Carylee Carrington is chair of the Prince William County Arts Council and a nationally recognized children’s book author, whose stories provide messages of encouragement, hope and self-acceptance.
§ Muriel Evans-Buck is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and a contributing author to the anthology, Uncommon Endurance: 12 Women's Stories of Resilience and Redemption, which showcases the strength of women who have faced personal challenges and emerged victoriously.
§ Shannon Ivey is a gifted musician and Manassas City resident. She has played the guitar for years and now teaches others.
§ Kenneth Nixon is a pastor at the First Baptist Church of Manassas. His book, Born into Crisis: A Memoir, shares his story of growing up with a mother with severe mental illness and provides practical strategies for creating lasting change in our mental health system.
§ Tinnetta Putney is a talented artist who loves to draw. Her works have been sold in the Ethnic Expressions catalog and been exhibited in galleries in California, Georgia and New Jersey. She is a county resident.
