This combined meeting is designed for Education & Workforce Committee to learn about and assist our Senior Services Committee with their initiative: 

Students Serving Seniors

Students Serving Seniors is a student-led leadership initiative that connects high-school students to the senior population, allowing each to be mentored by the other. The connections would be in the areas of health, labor, education, recreation and housing. As the process is being cleared within the school division, this meeting will focus on the activities currently discussed within Senior Services Committee and enhanced with the assistance of Education & Workforce.

VA Literacy Act/National Young Readers Day (NYRD)

Also, we will highlight the Education & Workforce Committee's commitment to Literacy. This focus is a Chamber Foundation priority and E & W will be responsible for the initiatives/partnerships that will come about, enhancing favorable outcomes under the Virginia Literacy Act. NYRD will be the first community initiative planned for by the Committee 

Student Workforce

Lastly, we will discuss the D.I.T.S. Council's workforce initiative and their community event centered around our Veteran & Youth Communities in November (Resource Fair). We will highlight the details and how it pertains to individuals who are: new to workforce, transition/career changers, veterans
