Master Chief Lorenzo Boyd

Naval Health Clinic Quantico

Assistant Department Head MMD/Activity Equipment Manager

HMCM(Retired) Carnell L. Boyd is assigned as Assistant Department Head, Materials Management Department, Naval Health Clinic Quantico VA. A native of Bishopville, South Carolina, he graduated from Bishopville High School in 1985 and enlisted in the Navy June of the same year. He attended basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois followed by Hospital Corpsman "A" School in Great Lakes, Illinois.

His first duty assignment was National Naval Medical Center Bethesda, Maryland from October 1985 to May 1987 where he served as a general duty corpsman on the wards and in the emergency room. From June to December 1985, he attended Pharmacy Technician School in Portsmouth, VA and was promoted to Petty Officer Third Class.

In January 1988, he reported to Naval Hospital Charleston, South Carolina where he worked as a Pharmacy Technician. He was also promoted to Petty Officer Second Class during that tour. In December 1991, he received orders to A/C Operational Detachment, Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico. While there he was primarily TAD to the Navy Hospital. In January 1995, he reported onboard Navy Medical Clinic, Quantico, VA and worked in the pharmacy. While there, he was also promoted to Petty Officer First Class.

In June 1997, HM1 Boyd reported to the USS ENTERPRISE (CVN-65) home-ported in Norfolk, VA. He reported onboard as the independent pharmacy technician, but also served as the Leading Petty Officer for 18 months. He earned his Enlisted Surface and Aviation Warfare devices onboard. From May-June 2000, he attended Career Counselor School in Norfolk, VA with follow on orders to Navy Personnel Command, Millington, TN to serve as a HM Detailer. He was selected for advancement to Chief Petty Officer July 2000 and initiated at Millington, TN. In June 2002, he terminated shore duty and reported to Fleet Surgical Team TWO, Little Creek, VA where he completed the Maiden Deployment on the USS IWO JIMA (LHD-7) from March to November 2003. In January 2004, he did a 4 month surge deployment to the Persian Gulf onboard USS BATAAN (LHD-5). In July 2004, he reported to Naval Hospital Naples, Italy where he served as the Personnel Chief and later the Senior Enlisted Leader for Director for Administration. He was selected for promotion to Senior Chief Petty Officer in May 2007.

Senior Chief Boyd reported as the Department Leading Chief for the Health Services Department onboard USS JOHN C STENNIS (CVN-74) home-ported out of Bremerton, WA from July 2007 to June 2010. In May 2010, he was selected for Master Chief Petty Officer and assigned orders to Naval Health Clinic Quantico to serve as the Command Master Chief.

Master Chief Boyd retired from the Navy on 3 July 2014 and became a civilian government employee in November 2014. He currently serves as the Supervisor Supply System Analyst and Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command, Quantico Virginia. He is married to Yalonda K. Boyd also from his hometown of Bishopville, SC and they have two sons Tory (39), Marcus (23) and a daughter Laini (28).
