Earnie Porta, JD, PhD

Mayor, Town of Occoquan

Earnie Porta has served as Mayor of the Town of Occoquan from 2006 through 2014 and from 2018 to the present.  He holds a bachelor’s degree (Foreign Service), a law degree (JD), and a PhD (History) from Georgetown University, as well as an MA (History) from George Mason University.  Dr. Porta has spent much of his professional career in the field of Finance and has been an active board member and officer of various civic organizations, some of which are the Occoquan Historical Society, the Prince William Public Library System Foundation, Historic Prince William, Patriots for Disabled Divers, Action in the Community through Service (ACTS), and the Prince William County Historical Commission.  He has a number of publications to his credit. In November of 2010, for example, he authored a book on Occoquan in Arcadia Publishing’s Images of America series and on April 1, 2024, his latest work, Hurricane Agnes in Virginia, was released by the History Press. Last fall he authored an article on the law of private cemeteries in Virginia that appeared in Virginia Lawyer.
