Derrick R. Wood, the distinguished Mayor of Dumfries, Virginia, exemplifies committed leadership and strong community advocacy. His journey, marked by service in the United States Marine Corps as a budget technician, laid a strong foundation for his insightful and empathetic leadership style. Mayor Wood, also an innovative entrepreneur, founded Dyvine Barbecue In Motion, a popular mobile catering company.

Re-elected for a second term as Mayor, Wood’s political acumen and dedication to public service are evident. His role as the 2024 first vice president of the National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials at the National League of Cities amplifies his influence, promoting leadership among African-American municipal officials on a national scale.

Deeply committed to youth development, Mayor Wood actively creates platforms for young voices in Dumfries, nurturing future leaders. As a motivational speaker, coach, and author, he shares his personal experiences of resilience and living with purpose, inspiring many.
