Description

Join us to hear an update from Mayor Michelle Davis-Younger, City of Manassas

A native of Manassas, Mayor Michelle Davis-Younger is the first Black, female, and Democrat to hold the highest office in the city.  Since 2018, she has served on the Manassas City Council and championed the causes of Manassas residents.  Her two children have been educated in Manassas City public schools.  As a small business owner, she helps Manassas residents develop their careers, market their accomplishments, and broaden their skillsets.  She loves her city and is its hometown hero.

Mayor Davis-Younger is moving from breaking barriers to producing positive change and influencing future generations.  Her family has its roots in Manassas and has witnessed the city’s progress from a town under segregation to her becoming its mayor.  Mayor Davis-Younger uses her position to inspire young Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), particularly girls, to dream big dreams and work hard to achieve them.  She has initiated a “My Mayor Looks Like Me!” program through which young ladies can visit city hall, meet with her, and learn from her life story.  She helped appoint a citizen Equity and Inclusion Task Force fostering open and honest discussion of race, racism, and diversity and exploring barriers that community members may have experienced when accessing governmental services.

Mayor Davis-Younger is a proud member of numerous boards and associations, including the Society of Human Resources Management, the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority, Strayer University Alumni Council and Virginia Municipal League (VML) where she currently serves as the Vice-Chair of the Urban Section.  She also received the 2022 Justitia Award from the Prince William County chapter of the Virginia Women Attorneys Association.  Mayor Davis-Younger has been profiled in the VML Town and City magazine and has been covered by many local media outlets like WUSA TV 9, the Prince William Times and Inside NOVA.  She was also highlighted on the cover of What She Said digital magazine and featured in a special guest story.  She has also been elected to the Board of Regents of Leadership Prince William and was selected as an Outstanding Alumni of Strayer University in 2021.  Mayor Davis-Younger holds her Master and Bachelor of Business Administration degrees from Strayer University, a Professional Human Resources (PHR) certification from SHRM and owns and operates a human resources consulting firm, The1ForHR, LLC, in Historic Downtown Manassas.  She is also a member of the First Baptist Church of Manassas, the oldest African American church in the City of Manassas.
